Parks Winter Activities Update for January 24
January 24, 2012
January 24, 2012 - Colder temperatures allows for some of Madison Parks ice rinks to reopen today.
Ice Skating Rinks - Open today are: Tenney, Vilas (lagoon closed), Elver, Garner (hockey closed), Olbrich (hockey closed), Westmorland, Wexford, Nakoma, Hillington Triangle. Skate rental and concessions are available at Tenney, Vilas and Elver Parks.
Sledding Hills - If there is snow on the hill, you are welcome to go sledding. After your sledding hill run at Elver Park - stop in, warm up and enjoy a cup of hot cocoa at the concession area in the warming shelter. Remember, sledding is at your own risk, exit the bottom of the hill and walk up the sides of the hill.
Ski Trails - Staff packed and rolled the trails at Elver Park (both east and west trails) and at Odana Hills Golf Course this past weekend. More snow is needed before staff can re-groom the trails. Conditions are best suited to skate skiing. The lights will be on at Elver. All other ski trails in the parks remain ungroomed.
Snowshoeing - Snowshoers must stay on the trails. Please note snowshoes are not allowed on cross country ski trails at anytime. Madison Parks does not rent snowshoes.
Please keep in mind that there needs to be sufficient snow to create a base for snowshoeing. The woods generally need more snow to fall because the trees protect the trails. For a list of parks to snowshoe in: http://www.cityofmadison.com/parks/snowshoeing/
