Walk with a Doc
Physician: Dr. Aleksandra Zgierska
Topic: Smoking Cessation for Yourself and Your Loved Ones
After earning her medical degree in Poland, Dr. Aleksandra Zgierska completed a family medicine residency, followed by addiction medicine training at UW. She is now a faculty at the UW School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Family Medicine; she sees patients at the UW Health Yahara Family Medicine Clinic, UW Hospital and Meriter Hospital. She is also a National Institutes of Health funded scientist whose research is focused on improving health of people affected by addiction or mental health problems. She has conducted research on whether mindfulness meditation can effectively prevent alcohol relapse or improve outcomes in chronic low back pain. When away from work, she enjoys spending time with her husband, two children and dog, preferably outdoors.
Take some time to relax and get outside amidst all your holiday preparations, and come join Dr. Zgierska as she leads her first “Walk with a Doc!” outing. Bundle up and come learn more about ways to beat the smoking habit, either yours or someone else’s. She will explain the benefits of quitting this life-threatening habit, which may give you a whole new perspective on the issue, and best ways to approach smoking cessation. Afterwards, you will get a chance to ask her your own questions as you embark on a winter walk alongside Dr. Zgierska through Tenney Park.
