Markings, Flag Colors
The City often fields questions from residents when different colors appear either spray painted on lawns in the Public Right of Way, or when flag markers are placed in the Public Right of Way. These colors are indicated as the following according to Digger's Hotline:
Marking/Flag Color | Marking/Flag Meaning |
---|---|
Red | Electric Power Lines, Cables, Conduit and Lighting Cable |
Yellow | Gas, Oil, Steam, Petroleum or Gaseous Materials |
Orange | Communication, Cable TV, Alarm or Signal Lines, Cables or Conduit |
Blue | Water, Irrigation and Slurry Lines |
Green | Sewers and Drain Lines |
Pink | Temporary Survey Markings |
White | Proposed Excavation |
According to Digger's Hotline, when excavation is complete, it is the duty of the ticket holder to remove marking flags and stakes. At large worksites, it is the duty of the general contractor to remove flags and stakes.
If paint marks or flags have been destroyed due to excavation site activities, weather or other means, a relocate request should be filed with Diggers Hotline.
