Downtown Move OUt Collection Kicks Into High Gear
The Streets Division will pull out all the stops to get the trash and recycling from the downtown move out collected. Crews will begin work at 4 a.m. on Thursday and Friday of this week. "We want to get our crews on the street early, so they can pick up a significant amount of material before the morning rush hour," Madison recycling coordinator George Dreckmann said. "Madison ordinances allow the Streets Department to collect material prior to 6 a.m. for a limited period of time. We have done this in the past during the move out and this year we will only be doing it for two days." In addition to the early start times this week; Streets Division crews will also hit the street on Sunday August 16th. It is expected that over 800 tons of additional material will be collected during the move out period. "We won't be doing collection on August 15th because of the heavy volume of traffic and parked vehicles from people moving into their new apartments," Dreckmann said. "We will be out in full force on the 16th in an effort to get everything picked up before the new work week."
