Madison Offers Home Compost Classes

The City of Madison is offering four home composting classes this spring. The classes, taught by Streets Division staff with extensive personal experience in home composting will be offered in conjunction with the Madison Public Library. The classes will be held as follows; Saturday April 3rd 1:30 p.m. Meadowridge Library 5740 Raymond RD Saturday April 10th 10:00 a.m. Pinney Library 204 Cottage grove RD Saturday April 17th , 11:00 a.m. Sequoya Library 513 S. Midvale BL Saturday April 24th 11:00 a.m. Lakeview Library 2845 N. Sherman AV "Composting at home is a great way to reduce the waste you send to the landfill while getting top quality soil for your garden," Madison Recycling coordinator George Dreckmann said. "The compost classes are free of charge an open to anyone and are designed to give residents a chance to learn the basics of home composting." "Our classes are also a great way for residents to become acquainted with the Earth Machine home compost bin which we will be selling at our annual compost bin sale on Saturday May 1," Dreckmann added. "We will have an Earth Machine on display and we will demonstrate how to use it. The compost bin sale will take place on Saturday May 1st from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., or while supplies last, at the Alliant Energy Center Olin AV parking lot. Earth Machines will be on sale for $40, tax included. The sale, cosponsored by Dane County is open to anyone and there is no limit to the number of bins that can be purchased.
