Clean Streets Clean Lakes Street Sweeping Program Underway

The Streets Division began the annual Clean Streets/Clean Lakes street sweeping program on Monday May 3rd. The program, which restricts parking during daytime hours, enables streets sweepers to get to the curb line to clean up debris. "The Clean Streets/Clean Lakes program is an important tool in keeping debris and nutrients out of our lakes and streams," Streets Division spokesperson George Dreckmann said. "When our sweepers can get to the curb, they do a good job of getting all of the debris that can accumulate in the streets." The Clean Streets/Clean Lakes program is in effect in portions of the Isthmus, the near south and near west sides. Daytime parking restrictions are posted on special signs in the affected areas. Drivers who fail to comply with the no parking rules will be fined $35 for violations. The program is in effect from May 1st through November 15th of each year. "It is important to remember that the no parking restrictions are in effect for the entire time posted on the signs," Dreckmann said. "Even if you have seen a sweeper go past your block, do not park in restricted area until time period has expired." People who live and park in 2nd, 5th, 6th 11th and 13th Alder Districts are advised to check for No Parking signs before parking in the area.
