Every Other Week Large Item Collection Starts Monday
Beginning Monday January 4, 2010 the Streets Division large item collection will switch from a weekly service to one offered every other week. The change was part of the 2010 City of Madison Operating Budget. "The change in large item collection frequency will begin on Monday," Madison recycling coordinator George Dreckmann said. "Details on the program changes and a new collection calendar were mailed to all Madison residents in the 2010 Recyclopedia" Residents who have not received a Recyclopedia should be getting it in the next few days. You can also find all the information on line at www.cityofmadison.com/streets. "The Streets Division will continue to collect regular refuse weekly," Dreckmann said. "Residents are encouraged to fit large items such as vacuum cleaners, lamps, and small chairs in their refuse carts. This will allow them to get rid of materials in a more timely basis and help our large item crews stay on schedule." Residents will notice that their new collection calendars show the dates for both large item and recycling collections. Theses services will occur on the same day as your regular trash collection. Recycling will be collected one week and large items the next. "Large item service will be subject to suspension during snow and ice operations as we have done in the past," Dreckmann said. "The service could also be delayed during weeks with holidays and during peak leaf season." In addition to the every other week collection service, Madison residents can also bring large items to the self-help drop off sites at 1501 W. Badger Rd or 4602 Sycamore Av. These sites are currently open winter hours M-F form 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Additional information on the drop off sites is also available at www.cityofmadison.com/streets and in the 2010 Recyclopedia
